The Hajime Asaoka Tsunami "Art Deco" is a closed edition of six pieces - completely made by hand by Hajime himself - and represents the cumulative evolution of Hajime Asaoka's 1930s art-deco design sensibilities stemming from his very first Tourbillon No.1 watch from 2007. The Tsunami "Art Deco" and Tourbillon No. 1 feature highly complex dial designs that take their cues from Delage and Delahaye coupes from the 30s. The blue-green azure and brushed steel colorways of the dial belie its construction complexity - with its striped center made up of vertically contrasting color gradations of silver, azure, green and blue. Hand-cut, hand-bent, and black-polished hour and minute hands point to arabic-numeral hour indices laid-upon a hand-brushed circular-grained steel band. The sub-seconds dial features the now reknowned 'zen garden' radial guilloche pattern.
The maillechort movement sees further improvements from previous Tsunami references with refinements in finishing, fit and polish. It retains the trademark large 15mm balance wheel that hides a 'secret' poising method which allows for symmetrical oscillations without the use of peripheral weights. Hajime Asaoka's 'Tako' wheel in gold features octopus-like spokes that are highly finished by hand. Finishing is executed to high horology standards, with perlage visible on the baseplate, anglage on all edges, and cotes-de-geneve striping throughout each of the bridges.
All six pieces of the Tsunami "Art Deco" have since been fully allocated.
