Voutilainen Tourbillon 20th anniversary

Thirty years ago, in 1994, Kari Voutilainen crafted his first timepiece, a one-minute tourbillon pocket watch that took 2,000 hours to achieve, working at nighttime. A few years later, he established his own workshop in Val-de-Travers, marking his independence in horology.

Paying tribute to his 30-year-old first own pocket watch and two decades of independence, the Tourbillon 20th anniversary timepiece has been unveiled in limited edition. It perfectly embodies Kari Voutilainen’s philosophy with a refined and robust in-house mechanism, a stylish and distinctive case as well as a hand-guilloché dial.

Inspired by the architecture and techniques of his first own pocket watch, the Tourbillon in-house movement was designed, built, fabricated, finished and assembled entirely within the Voutilainen workshops. Its design and ethos combine respect for precision and longevity with classical watchmaking tradition.

Like on the original timepiece, two barrels are directly connected to the center wheel pinion, utilizing a portion of the available power reserve. The watch runs for 72 hours, maintaining a highly constant amplitude through the time, resulting in a very regular rate.

Considering every detail, the Tourbillon cage takes inspiration from the pocket watch crafted by Kari Voutilainen 30 years ago.

As with every timepiece made in the Voutilainen workshops, the watch is meticulously hand-finished by skilled craftsmen to the highest standards. The surfaces of pinions and wheels are completely flat and highly polished within exceptionally uniform tolerances. The main plate and bridges are handcrafted to achieve the highest levels of surface finishing. Screws and all steel parts are finished and polished by hand.

To enhance the timepiece, the dial, made of silver, is hand-guilloché with distinctive patterns, a well-known signature of Voutilainen’s meticulous savoir-faire.
