Tambour Moon: a new expression of the Tambour timepiece

Created in 2002, the Tambour marked Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking debut. Numerous variations have since been released for both men and women, all while retaining its distinctive features. Now widely considered an icon, it is an ambassador for Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking prowess. Fifteen years after its creation the Tambour has not been replaced, but celebrated through a new version that respects its essence: the Tambour Moon.

An inverted curve

This new expression of the Tambour adheres to the aesthetic codes that made the original such a resounding success: a beautifully rounded case recalling the shape of a drum, applied horns to preserve the perfect circle of the case, the twelve Louis Vuitton letters engraved on the edge and, last but not least, the singular shape of the case that widens at its base so that it can sit comfortably on the wrist.

By toying with this shape, Louis Vuitton’s designers have crafted the Tambour Moon to give it a unique inward curve, giving the watch a new crescent-shaped profile. The concave edge creates a clever play on light and reflections that spreads to the case’s every curve.

Men’s collection

The Tambour Moon GMT represents one of Louis Vuitton’s most cherished themes: travel. That’s why the Tambour Moon gives the GMT function pride of place. This new elegant tool for the modern globetrotter is housed in a 41.5 mm case, available in both satin-brushed steel. It is powered by a self-winding calibre and is available in a choice of sand- blasted matte black dial with a sunburst satin-brushed GMT scale.

At the centre, the rice grain pattern recalls the weave of the Damier Graphite fabric.

Only an icon can remain on-trend, fifteen years after its creation, while keeping its personality and desirability fully intact.

New Interchangeable Straps

A stylish new way to build your own watch

Louis Vuitton has opened a new chapter in the history of the Tambour watch. First launched in 2002, its story continues today with the new Moon collection. And there’s more... Louis Vuitton is also presenting a unique new concept: interchangeable straps. This simple, exclusive and robust system allows Tambour owners to quickly and easily change their watch strap any time they want, no tools required. Straight out of Louis Vuitton’s Research & Development department, this simple, light and durable patented system is made from a composite material with high carbon content and properties similar to titanium.

In a first for Louis Vuitton, the system is compatible with all Tambour watches, from the classic original to more recent models, including the Tambour Slim and the new Tambour Moon.

With a wide selection of straps made from leather and other Louis Vuitton fabrics, as well as a renewed collection of rubber straps, new customers first select their Tambour case and then their first strap. It’s a playful way for first-time owners to build their own watch. Not only that, but anyone who already owns a Tambour can choose as many new straps as they want, no matter what model or diameter their timepiece is.

There are currently over thirty possibilities for men and women available in a variety of colours and materials, and even more straps are on their way, from Damier and Monogram canvas to alligator and new leathers borrowed from the leather goods collection.

While the quality and creativity of a strap are part of what makes a watch special, they can also radically change the spirit of the timepiece. No matter which Tambour you own, it will look good in any style.
