Inspiration
I was intrigued by the idea of recreating something from the roots of watchmaking history, and I found inspiration in the regulator-style timepieces made over 200 years ago by legendary masters such as Antide Janvier and Abraham Louis Breguet.
My goal was to re-imagine the regulator dial with an innovative asymmetric design, modern typography, and fine details such as the hand-polished 18k gold numerals and the long slender center-minutes hand.
The nod to the past is achieved with a slim classical case, the traditional high-end finishing, and the attention to chronometry in the design of the movement. The mechanism has twin-barrels coupled in series which provide a very stable flow of power to the escapement, combined with a large free-sprung balance wheel that oscillates at a steady amplitude over a large portion of the 96 hours of power reserve.
The T-01 is both an homage to classic instruments of time measurement, as well as a refined contemporary watch that lends a new face to an old concept. All of the pieces are made in St-Sulpice, Val-de-Travers, Switzerland (limited edition, 25 pieces in 18k rose gold, 25 in 18k white gold).
Features
- Two-tone sunray textured dial in storm-grey, paired with frosted rhodium-toned sub-dials made from 18k white gold.
- Embossed 18k white gold numerals, machined from a solid piece of gold and mirror-polished by hand.
- Twin-barrels decorated with hand-made guilloché, made-to-measure for each client in a choice of 3 patterns: grain d’orge (barley corn), la tornade (tornado), or soleil vague (sunray waves).
- 18k white gold wheels with double spokes, finished with circular grained faces and hand-polished anglage.
- ‘Compass rose’ balance wheel, with Breguet overcoil and four 18k gold timing weights, designed in-house with curved arms so that when in motion, the balance appears in the shape of the compass rose.
- Symmetrical movement with traditional fine finishing, including hand-made rounded anglage,
18k gold chatons in the barrel bridges, black polishing, perlage, graining, and polished countersinks for jewels, screws and pins. The movement features a contemporary two-tone finish, with a frosted black plate and nickel colored bridges.
