SPX DeLorean

REC Watches is an independent watch brand based in Denmark, founded by two childhood friends with a shared passion for watches and everything automotive. The concept is a venturous pursuit to breathe new life into iconic vehicles by condensing their rich narrative into each of our bespoke yet affordable timepieces. We combine our respective passions into one collective mission: to salvage original stories of iconic vehicles and recycle them into unique timepieces, that then serve as the canvas to perpetuate and carry with it, the rich legacy of the donor machine.

The SPX DeLorean is a limited edition timepiece made from John Z. DeLorean’s personal DMC-12 company car. It is naturally limited to 456 pieces due to the T-roof section from John DeLoreans car we obtained directly form the DeLorean Motor Company. John's vision for the DeLorean Motor Company was short-lived, surrounded by controversy and often in the media spotlight. In 1985, a year after the company dissolution, the car’s starring role in the acclaimed comedic sci-fi film, ‘Back to the Future’, helped to immortalize the vehicle. With its futuristic design, by Giorgetto Giugiaro, and selection of then unconventional materials, the DMC-12 still remains an instantly recognizable sight on the open road even today more than 40 years later.

In addition to the reclaimed T-roof of the DeLorean, incorporated into the timepiece, and the built-in storytelling there off the design itself features a blend of what we consider made the DeLorean the icon it is still considered today. The SPX DeLorean is an official collaboration with the DeLorean Motor Company and is a licensed product, it was launched exclusively on REC Watches website December 1st 2022. The 456 pieces were sold out shortly there after.
