Spring Drive 5 Days 'Lake Suwa before dawn'
Power reserve: 120 h
Skeleton movement
To the southeast of the Shinshu Watch Studio, where all Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches are made, is the gently lapping waters of Lake Suwa. The dial of the Spring Drive SLGA021 creation evokes the gentle waves wafting over the wind-swept lake in the pre-dawn stillness. Like a gentle wind on an otherwise tranquil body of water, the dark blue color manifests differently depending on the angle at which light catches it.
The watch exhibits the Evolution 9 Style, the grammar of design that enhances the Grand Seiko Style established in 1967 and takes the beauty, legibility and comfort of Grand Seiko to a new level. Its Zaratsu polished, distortion-free mirror finish and delicate hairline finish alternate to give the case a quiet and harmonious glow. The lugs are wider and the bracelets are more robust and, like the cases, have a low center of gravity to ensure that the watches sit comfortably and securely on the wrist.
The watch is powered by the latest Spring Drive movement, Caliber 9RA2, which offers an accuracy rate of ±10 seconds per month and a 5 day power reserve. The movement incorporates two barrels that are different sizes so as to deliver the torque required for the five day power reserve while optimizing the use of the limited space within the movement.
As with every Spring Drive movement, Caliber 9RA2’s seconds hand moves in perfect glide motion and, through it, expresses the natural and continuous flow of time that resonates so deeply with the Japanese sensibility. The delicate texture of the movement's finish reflects the frost that winter brings to the trees in Shinshu. The bridge lines and hole edges are diamond-cut to reflect light from all angles and the jewels and the tempered blue power reserve indicator add a quiet sparkle that is a delight to behold.
