Slim d'Hermès Promenade de Longchamp

SLIM D’HERMÈS PROMENADE DE LONGCHAMP stages the rare art of Persian miniature painting.

The artisan begins by preparing the dial. Camel bone powder is mixed with resin. A thin disc is then cut out from this solidified base and delicately polished. It is then that a unique form of alchemy comes into play. The artisan prepares his own dyes based on natural pigments. Some are plantbased, using saffron, walnuts, henna or pomegranate; while others are mineral, composed of crushed lapis lazuli, turquoise, gold or silver leaf. Using a tiny brush, the artisan turns artist in reproducing the motif by Philippe Ledoux for a Hermès silk scarf. The porous surface absorbs the colour before it is fixed in place by gum Arabic and coated with a protective varnish. Many days of meticulous work were required to create the dial of this model, issued in a 12-piece limited numbered edition.

The workmanship resulting from this oriental technique is framed by the gold case of the Slim d’Hermès model. Finally the hours of this artistic craftsmanship are reliably regulated by the ultra-thin Manufacture Hermès H1950 movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case-back.
