Signature 1, a co-created timepiece

Preserving valuable skills

The Signature line is an opportunity for a watchmaker – selected for their talent and their original approach to watchmaking – to create a timepiece within Greubel Forsey’s universe and co-sign it with Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey. First and foremost, the aim of this project is to highlight watchmaking skills. The Signature is an extension of our desire to convey a particular vision of fine watchmaking to future generations: timepieces created by visionary people on first-rate technology and expertise knowledge that must be preserved.

Simplicity and elegance

The Signature 1 was sketched by Didier Cretin, a long-time member of the Greubel Forsey team. This co-design is a manually wound timepiece with three hands, without a tourbillon but featuring an in-house developed balance wheel exclusively designed by Greubel Forsey that oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour. The nickel silver bridges are hand-decorated with Côtes de Genève, frosted and spotted with polished believing and countersinks, straight-grained flanks, large polished bevelling on the front side.

More specifically, the barrel bridge is presented in flat black-polished steel with hand-polished countersinks. The Signature 1’s decoration associate tradition with contemporary aesthetics, reflecting Greubel Forsey’s predilection for combining the traditional with the state-of-the-art.

Sophistication in a unique edition

The Signature 1 in white gold was inaugurated in 2016 by Didier Cretin. In 2017 the Signature 1 in platinum is presented with an especially pure off-centred dial, establishing a sober counterpoint to the visible mechanics and the shiny platinum case. The hour-ring and minute-circle appear in white, underscored by a polished bevel subtly balancing the polished steel hands. An individual number is hand-engraved on the back of the timepiece, issued in a series of eleven pieces in platinum to preserve and renew the rarity of Greubel Forsey.
