Flying tourbillon
For the first time, Audemars Piguet releases a selfwinding flying tourbillon in an extra-thin stainless steel Royal Oak case of 37 mm. This timepiece is powered by the Manufacture’s new selfwinding ultra-thin flying tourbillon movement, Calibre 2968, developed over a five-year period. Audemars Piguet’s engineers and watchmakers took on numerous challenges to accommodate this complication – previously reserved for 41 mm diameters – first into a 39 mm “Jumbo” case, released earlier this year, and now in an even smaller 37 mm diameter. This selfwinding flying tourbillon had to be creatively rethought to fit in the extra-thin form language of these two Royal Oak models. The titanium tourbillon cage is not only equipped with a peripheral drive to gain in thickness and improve energy transmission. The oscillator has also been rethought to increase its amplitude and enhance reliability, energy distribution and precision. For the occasion, the stainless steel watch also premieres a “Petite Tapisserie” dial in a new plum hue.
