Rado Captain Cook Automatic collection

Making waves

(Lengnau, Switzerland – 2019) Rado is proud to launch a brand new collection of Captain Cook watches as part of its exciting new product selection. Don’t think vintage, think vibrant.

Forget traditional and think pioneering. Shapes, colours, materials and an eye for enduring design combine on 42 mm models that are made to suit modern proportions.

Drawing on all the great elements that made the 1962 original a roaring success, and using signature materials that have appeared on favourite Rado models through the years, the new Captain Cook collection brings all Rado’s milestone moments together for maximum impact.

Shapes have always been important at Rado and they form the basis of this year’s Captain Cook collection. The sword and arrow hands and curved dial are as distinctive as they are authentic, the wedge shaped indexes are luminescent as well as interesting.

The original concave turning bezel now benefits from a durable high-tech ceramic inlay. Rado has been using this amazing material since 1986. The original Captain Cook had a black dial and bezel. The new ceramic bezel inlay appears in glossy black – the colour first used on the groundbreaking Integral from 1986.

Typical Rado colours are another striking element of the new collection. Green, blue and brown versions – colours first introduced at Rado on the True collection in 2016 – make their Captain Cook debut in matching combinations of dials and bezels.

The sapphire crystal – first introduced on the Diastar 1 in 1962 and now a feature of all Rado watches – replaces the acrylic glass of the original, adding scratch resistance while retaining its bubble-effect box shape.

The famous moving anchor symbol, which is now a feature of all Rado automatic watches, has a new ‘60s inspired ruby background. It represents quality and precision just as it did in 1962.  These new models feature the more powerful Swiss made, high-quality C07 movement with extended 80 hour power reserve – a must for modern wearers.

For this latest Captain Cook, Rado has drawn on six decades of experience, reinvigorated an iconic Rado name and united its biggest and best milestones to create a collection that is guaranteed to make waves.
