As the name of the watch itself testifies “R&D” speaks volumes about Girard-Perregaux' s dedication to Research and Development and attention to detail. The watch design is unique for a chronograph, the start/stop buttons being placed to the left hand of the watch dial as opposed to the right – a choice carefully studied in cooperation with sportsmen competing in various disciplines – sailing, obviously – but also car racing.

This allows optimum comfort of operation of the chronograph during a race. In line with Girard-Perregaux' s modern interpretation of traditional Swiss watch-making, the movement (developed and manufactured by GP) is a self-winding automatic movement.

Comme son nom l' indique, le modèle « R&D » illustre la passion de GIRARDPERREGAUX pour la recherche et le développement et le soin apporté aux moindres détails.

La conception de ce chronographe est originale: ses poussoirs sont inversés et ontété positionnés à gauche du boîtier - un choix soigneusement étudié en collaboration avec des sportifs pratiquant diverses disciplines, dont la voile,évidemment, mais aussi la course automobile. Cette particularité permet d'actionner ses poussoirs avec une facilité optimale durant une course. En cohérence avec son interprétation moderne de l'horlogerie, le mouvement (mis au point et manufacturé par GP) est à remontage automatique.
