There is beauty in rawness, and that’s precisely what kollokium seeks to explore. Founded in 2020 by three friends from the world of watchmaking, kollokium is a project platform for creating without a pre-established framework, without an existing brand, without a defined artistic direction and without a rehashed story.
kollokium's first project, simply dubbed Projekt 01, is a work of neubrutalism. Structural, graphic and transhumanist at its core, it opens up new possibilities in watch design while remaining wearable and lowkey from a distance.
Like a miniature urban landscape under a sapphire box, the dial is a 3D reconstruction of an intentionally pixelated image rendered by Adobe Illustrator. If you squint, you can clearly see twelve indexes: sticks for the cardinal hours and circles for the others. Set with 468 individually hand-applied cylindrical indexes (quite possibly a world record), each cylinder, of six different diameters and heights, is sandblasted and then filled with white Super-LumiNova which glows with an orange emission.
The two-part case is literally like no other. Forged from 316L stainless steel, it isn’t crafted using the usual milling and stamping methods. Instead, it is made by die-casting, an industrial and old-school process. Why? Well, because they said it wasn't possible, and because the desired result was a case with a raw and rugged appearance, featuring a unique texture produced by injecting molten steel into a cast form. It is the antithesis of fine precision watchmaking, and that’s exactly the point.
For Projekt 01, kollokium chose the G101 automatic movement from the La Joux-Perret manufacture, with a 68-hour power reserve, so you can take it off on Friday and wear it again on Monday. As kollokium had nothing to do with the movement, it was decided to leave it unmarked and unadorned, it its purest state.
The initial series of the kollokium Projekt 01, called “F&F&F” (friends, family and fools), is produced in an edition of 99 pieces. It is distinguished by its fluorescent orange second hand and its Super-LumiNova with orange emission.
