Octo Chrono Quattro Retro
Based on Frédérique Piguet Calibre 1185, a Manufacture-made self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement, each calibre is specially finished according to Gérald Genta specifications. The old gold colour characteristic of movements in the Gérald Genta complication collections serves to confirm that they belong to the proud lineage of Haute Horlogerie, as do their decorative features including circular-grained motifs, sinks and black engraved markings. This noble heritage is apparent in the care lavished on each detail, with each part of the complicated mechanism and each relief adorned with polishing, bevelling, file-drawn flanks and satin-brushed surfaces.
A traditionally built movement with a screw-down column-wheel mechanism, the FP 1185 is renowned for its reliability as well as its appealing aesthetics. The technical modifications made to the base calibre for these models enables it to house the additional plate for the jumping hour and quadruple retrograde (Quattro Retro) functions, developed and built by Gérald Genta. The GG 7800 Chrono Quattro Retro movement drives a number of indications on the dial, including the jumping hour appearing through an off-centred aperture placed at 12 o'clock below the minute segment, a retrograde date display at 6 o'clock and the chronograph functions with hour counter at 9 o'clock and minute counter at 3 o'clock. The large central seconds hand is very original on this model, since it rests at 6 o'clock when in the stop/start position, so as to avoid ever covering up the hour-display aperture.
Octo Chrono Quattro Retro, a technical look and an imposing size
The three key strengths of the Octo collection are its horological complications, its avant-garde design and the exclusivity of the precious materials. Housed in the imposing 5N red gold or white gold case measuring a generous 44.5 mm in diameter, the Octo Chrono Quattro Retro GG 7800 embodies triumphant masculinity. The case stemming from the Octo collections is distinguished by its complex technical construction. It is built on a sturdy octagonal case middle with an angular elegance that is counterbalanced by a round upper bezel. The chronograph push-buttons are seamlessly integrated into the lines of the case middle in order to maintain the overall dynamic flow. This ensures perfect harmony of shapes, complemented by the geometric nature of the dial and the various surface treatments. Curves, straight lines and angles unite to form a daringly elegant set enhanced by the clever choice of precious materials.
