Description

Nereide Chimera explores the idea that stability can emerge from the coexistence of elements that differ in origin, structure and nature, transforming geological complexity into a contemporary horological expression.

The concept draws inspiration from Venice itself, a city founded upon apparent contradiction. Its symbol, the winged lion, embodies the idea of synthesis through the union of distinct forms into a single balanced entity. Built upon water in a place seemingly unsuited for permanence, Venice became a structure defined not by uniformity, but by the equilibrium created through opposing elements existing together.

This same principle defines Nereide Chimera at a material level.

At the center of the watch is a dial crafted from Iron Tiger stone, a naturally composite material formed through the geological fusion of Tiger’s Eye, Red Jasper and Hematite. Rather than existing as a singular mineral, Iron Tiger develops through layered mineral replacement processes, where silica-rich formations and iron-dense structures gradually merge into a compact and stable composition over millions of years.

The resulting surface reveals a continuously shifting interplay of golden reflections, deep red veins and metallic dark tones, creating a natural pattern that appears almost fluid under changing light conditions. Each stone slab is individually selected and carefully oriented to preserve the visual balance of its mineral layers before being cut and reduced to approximately 0.4 mm in thickness. At this level, structural stability and visual integrity must coexist, making both selection and processing essential parts of the manufacturing process.

Framing the dial is the established 42 mm architecture of the Nereide collection, where satin-brushed and polished surfaces create a balanced interaction between technical robustness and refined finishing. The tungsten bezel insert provides exceptional scratch resistance while maintaining a restrained visual presence, allowing the mineral complexity of the dial to remain the central focus of the watch.

Powering Nereide Chimera is the Sellita SW200 automatic calibre, complemented by Venezianico’s skeletonized signature rotor decorated with radial Côtes de Genève, visible through the sapphire caseback.

Through the fusion of geological material, symbolic inspiration and contemporary watchmaking design, Nereide Chimera transforms the concept of coexistence into a physical object, where contrasting elements do not compete, but instead achieve balance through integration.
