The true magic, however, lies in the next step: using a tool called an “onglette”, a steel chisel with a pointed tip, the engraver carves thousands of tiny triangles by hand. Each triangle must be uniform in size, depth, and angle to create the harmonious reflections that give the dial its brilliance. There is no precise template, no guide — only the engraver’s instinct and mastery lead the process. This exceptional level of craftsmanship demands not only precision but also resilience. Over the course of crafting a single dial, the tool's tip often dulls or breaks under the repeated pressure. Engravers must sharpen and re-hone their tools up to 40 times per dial to maintain the consistency needed for perfection. The result is breathtaking. The Shattered Glass pattern seems to dance with light, its brilliance highlighted by four pear-shaped colored sapphires.
