MECCANICHE VELOCI, ICON Damascus
Meccaniche Veloci – Genève is an independent Swiss-Italian watchmaker based in Plan-les-Ouates, renown worldwide for its unmistakable piston shaped case with the iconic four valves.
The new Icon Damascus is made of damascus steel, a material resulting from the first forging technique discovered by man, originating from the union of different types of steel, stretched and folded down on multiple layers and welded together.
This forging process is reproduced by Meccaniche Veloci in a small forgery north of Milan and the raw billet is then worked and transformed into the watch case in Switzerland.
The allure of history turns into a very topical aesthetic and design concept: case and bezel show a unique texture characterized by irregular “waves” that create shiny and opaque effects.
The middle case is made of a-DLC black titanium.
The four black dials indicate four different and independent time zones, each one with minutes and hours, while the date and the red seconds hand are located respectively on top and bottom right dials. The functions of every single dial are regulated via their corresponding crown.
The strap, directly attached to the case via a special insert made of aeronautical aluminium that does not require lugs, is made of black leather with red stitching and a stainless steel MV folding clasp.
The watch is equipped with the in-house calibre MV8802, entirely developed and manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds, whose rotor is visible through the open caseback. The integrated automatic self-winding movement provides 48 hours of power reserve, runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hertz) and has 328 components with 33 rubies. It is finished with perlage, sablage, rodiage and red paint.
As for every Meccaniche Veloci timepiece, Damascus comes with a Watch Passport certifying that 100% of watch components, including strap and buckle, are manufactured in Switzerland.
