PURSUING A UNIQUE PATH, THE MECHANICAL EXCELLENCE

Reviving Precision: The Journey of the Remontoirs

It was around 1600, thanks to Jost Bürgi, that an intermediate winding mechanism, the remontoir d’égalité, was first integrated into a clock. It significantly improved timekeeping accuracy by providing a more consistent power supply to the escapement. Since then, remontoirs have been fundamental in the evolution of precise timekeeping, featuring in the most significant timepieces, from astronomical clocks to marine chronometers.

The best-known example is John Harrison's H4, designed to maintain accurate time aboard ships. This innovative use of the remontoir inside a watch marked a significant advancement in timekeeping technology and won Harrison the Longitudinal Prize.

It is crucial to note that a variation of just five seconds in timekeeping can displace the navigation position by 2.5 kilometers from your actual location. This underscores the supreme importance of constant accuracy and regularity.

While remontoirs were nearly forgotten, they have experienced a renaissance in recent years, surpassing other equalization mechanisms like the chain and fusee in high-quality wristwatches.

THE CIC REVOLUTIONARY DOUBLE REMONTOIR SYSTEM

Lederer presents, for the first time in horological history, a timepiece with two remontoirs harmoniously integrated within a mechanical watch, the Central Impulse Chronometer (CIC). This timepiece represents a significant advancement in mechanical watchmaking thanks to its innovative and unique double constant-force remontoir system.

Developed entirely in-house at Lederer's Manufacture in Saint-Blaise, this breakthrough enhances the watch’s reliability and performance. By integrating a double constant-force remontoir system, Lederer not only revives an age-old mechanism but also takes a step forward in mechanical excellence.

CIC 39MM DOUBLE REMONTOIR DESIGNED FOR UNMATCHED PERFORMANCE

The remontoir system of the CIC 39mm was meticulously designed and constructed in an innovative way, out of the classic watchmaking literacy, in order to achieve not only a reduction in diameter on the entire movement but furthermore to ensure an excellent performance.

More precisely, the release mechanism has been placed to the third wheel axis, minimizing and optimizing the force consumed in the double remontoir mechanisms. This reduces unnecessary friction, ensuring a smooth and reliable system.

To achieve an ideal constant energy supply, Lederer offset the two 15-seconds remontoirs by 7.5 seconds each. This creates a superposition of the force curves, resulting in an almost uniform energy supply. This stability in amplitude ensures unmatched reliability and precision, showcasing how technical improvements can be realized while respecting traditional craftsmanship.

TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS MODERN INNOVATION

While many brands innovate with new materials that can only be modified on an industrial scale, Lederer embraces traditional hand-made watchmaking techniques, focusing on mechanical innovation where the mastery can be fully handled by expert artisans. This approach ensures the solidity, reliability, and strength of our movements, making them exceptionally durable in long-term and resistant to shocks, suitable for everyday wear in wristwatches.

IN-HOUSE MANUFACTURE COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE

Nestled in Saint-Blaise, Switzerland, Lederer's manufacturing facility is established in the heart of the renowned “Swiss Watch Valley,” a region steeped in horological heritage and innovation. This independent manufacture stands out by ensuring full in-house production capabilities, a testament to its commitment to uncompromising excellence. The decision, not to outsource certain works to external suppliers ensures the highest quality level and is a guarantee for a wide spectrum of transition of knowledge for well-trained watchmakers to come.

Led by independent Master Watchmaker Bernhard Lederer, the brand embodies the precision and rigor of German engineering. Lederer captures the essence of craftsmanship, creating extraordinary timepieces that transcend conventional accuracy, showcasing unique savoir-faire and dedication to the art of watchmaking.
Every owner of a CIC can be confident that their watch will consistently display the exact time, embodying planned safety and reliability. This watch is a perfect blend of innovative engineering, precise timekeeping, and artisanal craftsmanship, making it a true masterpiece in the world of horology.
