While placing 2012 under the theme of “The Gift of Time,” La Montre Hermès has chosen to enrich the Arceau line with a new ladies' model. The famous watch with its asymmetrical lugs reaffirms its understated elegance by treating itself to new dimensions and a Manufacturemade calibre.
Designed by Henri d'Origny in 1978, the Arceau watch is immediately recognisable thanks to the absence of lugs on either side of the round case, replaced by two asymmetrical curving stirrup-shaped attachments. They thus secure the strap so closely to the case that it seems as if the leather itself were holding the metal. This distinctive character is accentuated by the 34 mm diameter of the case. This year, the Arceau watch welcomes its very first Manufacture 10 ½ lines, movement, especially made for Hermès by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. Its name, H912, is a reference to the date of the photo on which Jacqueline Hermès appears wearing a “porteoignon”, meaning an ingenious system serving to secure a pocket-watch to the wrist.
The sophisticated horological nature of the Arceau Ecuyère watch is immediately apparent on its dial with its characteristic sloping numerals and a stamped radiating motif centred around the small seconds, itself highlighted by a delicate decorative fillet. Displaying a distinct flair for detail, Hermès has set the crown of this model with a rose-cut diamond.
A 100-piece Limited Edition to celebrate the watchmaking centenary of the House is available among this new collection of six models. The rose gold version is gemset on both the bezel and strap attachments, while the dial is graced with natural white motherof- pearl surrounding a silver-toned centre.
Finally, padded saddle-stitched matt black, havana or blue alligator straps entirely made in the Montre Hermès workshops in Brügg set the final touch to these six compositions available either in gemset steel, rose gold, or in gemset rose gold.
