Fifth stage of the 2019 roadshow
The GPHG is staging a multi-facetted exhibition at the MAH, dedicated to the art of watchmaking
Geneva, November 1st 2019 - After Sydney, Bangkok, Mexico City and Puebla, the 84 watches pre-selected by the jury of the 19th Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) are on display at the Musée d'art et d'histoire (MAH) in Geneva from November 2nd to 14th 2019. Inaugurated today evening, this collective exhibition initiated by the GPHG and involving several local institutions, presents the world of time measurement through different periods and perspectives.
As well as the 84 contemporary timepieces pre-selected by the GPHG jury – showcased on boldly-designed glass-free display tables resulting from the renewed collaboration between the preorder&soldout studio and Xavier Dietlin) – the public will have a chance to view a number of treasures exhibited in the Palatine rooms of the museum:
- a selection of historical gems, dating from the 16th to the 19th century – chosen from the watchmaking, enamelling, jewellery and miniature collections of the Musée d'art et d'histoire – and reflecting the quality of the creations crafted in workshops dotted across Geneva, Switzerland and Europe;
- original projects developed in 2019 by students of the Chair in Watch Design at the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD-Genève);
- an array of winning pictures from the Watch Photo Awards, along with photos by Karine Bauzin on the theme "What time is it?”, orchestrated by the Fine Watch Club.
In parallel, in order to raise awareness of the watchmaking profession among the public at large and young people in particular, the GPHG is daily offering free watchmaking initiation workshops (to register, call 077 522 09 01). These workshops are run by the Geneva Watchmaking School with the support of Geneva Airport.
The next key date is Thursday November 7th in Geneva, when the 2019 winners will be announced at the 19th GPHG prize-giving ceremony to be held at the Théâtre du Léman.
