Description

A strange vision of weightless time

The year 2006 version of the Classical Tourbillon Midnight stages a further encounter between the know-how inherited from the noblest horological traditions and the avant-garde creativity inherent to CORUM. It once again highlights the daringly innovative design of its movement entirely sculpted in sapphire, while modifying the transparency effect by the use of black sapphire. Black sapphire slightly blurs the contours of the mobile parts of the movement, creating the illusion of a “nocturnal” vision in which they appear to be moving like shadows floating in a completely weightless state.

The tourbillon, an ingenious regulator mechanism invented in the 18th century, has been the most fascinating of the great horological complications ever since. CORUM has chosen to render it even more amazing by surrounding it with a new world of transparency.

The black sapphire bridges and plates, measuring a mere 3/10th of a millimetre thick, represent a stunning technical and aesthetic feat. Each part is openworked and strategically positioned to enable the light to guide the wondering gaze through the “shadows” of the moving parts making up this masterpiece of complexity.

Polished, bevelled and circular-grained by hand in harmony with time-honoured decorative traditions, the components radiantly reflect a love of fine craftsmanship and consummate mastery of a profession. The individual number in this limited edition of 25 appears along with the CORUM hallmark on the winding-mechanism of the movement, which is endowed with an exceptional 90-hour power-reserve.

The broad 950 platinum case with its cone-shaped profile, lateral grooves, cambered crystal and bevelled edges, mirrors the lines of the Classical watches by CORUM.

The gold Roman hour numerals integrated within the “grand feu” enamelling on the bezel ring, along with the CORUM key symbol engraved in relief on the crown, are the double signature of this masterfully conceived work of art.

Cette version 2006 de la Classical Tourbillon Midnight signe une nouvelle rencontre entre le savoir-faire de la plus haute tradition horlogère et la créativité avant-gardiste qui caractérisent CORUM. Elle remet en avant la conception innovatrice et audacieuse de son mouvement entièrement taillé dans le saphir, mais en modifiant l'effet de transparence par l'utilisation d'un saphir noir. Le saphir noir estompe légèrement les contours des pièces mobiles du mouvement, produisant l'illusion d'une vision “nocturne” où elles semblent se mouvoir telles des ombres en apesanteur.

Le tourbillon, cet ingénieux mécanisme régulateur inventé au 18e siècle, est depuis toujours la plus fascinante des grandes complications horlogères. CORUM a choisi de la rendre plus étonnante encore en la dotant d'un nouvel univers de transparence.

Les ponts et platines en saphir noir d'une épaisseur réduite à 3/10e de millimètre représentent un véritable exploit technique et esthétique. Chaque pièce est squelettisée et placée en des points stratégiques permettant à la lumière de guider l'œil émerveillé à travers les “ombres” des mobiles qui composent ce chef-d'œuvre de complication.

Polis, anglés et cerclés à la main dans le respect de la tradition ancestrale, les composants reflètent avec éclat l'amour et la parfaite maîtrise du métier. Le numéro de cette édition limitée à 25 pièces s'inscrit avec la marque CORUM sur le mécanisme de remontoir du mouvement, dont la réserve de marche atteint une durée exceptionnelle de 90 heures.

Le large boîtier en platine 950 au profil conique, dessine avec ses rainures latérales, sa glace bombée et ses bords biseautés les lignes caractéristiques des Classical de CORUM.

Les chiffres romains des heures en or, intégrés dans l'émail grand feu du rehaut, ainsi que la clé CORUM, gravée en relief sur la couronne, signent cette fascinante œuvre d'art conçue de main de maître.
