Tangente Update

Tangente, the iconic NOMOS timepiece, has been a bestseller since its introduction over a quarter of a century ago. Its straightforward design, angular form, and unmistakable typography have become synonymous with the NOMOS brand. Now this model has received a timely update—as Tangente neomatik 41 Update.

At just under 41 millimeters in diameter, this classic men’s timepiece has considerably grown in size and yet remains exceptionally slender. It combines the beautiful details that have made Tangente an icon with an innovative date display. The date ring encircles the dial and features two red dots, which frame the current date—a solution as practical as it is playful. This type of date display is entirely new and exclusive to NOMOS Glashütte.

This complication is not only aesthetically innovative, but also user-friendly; the date can be set either forwards and backwards with only a half-turn of the crown.

Furthermore, it conveys a sense of the concentrated watchmaking expertise behind the dial—as this unique date display can be attributed to the new neomatik date caliber: DUW 6101. NOMOS Glashütte brought the first neomatik caliber (DUW 3001) onto the market in 2015, causing a sensation at the time. Such slender automatic watches had never been produced in series before. Now with DUW 6101, NOMOS Glashütte is setting a new standard for date watches.

The watchmaking expertise within the caliber truly sets this fine timepiece apart; the NOMOS program disk, for example, is an intelligently-designed space saver from the company’s R&D department. This unique triangle with rounded sides means DUW 6101 can feature a small date change wheel, rather than a large 24-hour one. An added benefit: The date changes within a very short time period and features a locking mechanism to avoid accidental damage during this downtime. The caliber’s escapement is also developed in-house and known as the NOMOS swing system. And finally, the NOMOS balance bridge provides the perfect support for this proprietary escapement. It features integrated shock protection to ensure accurate timekeeping at all times.

The movement side of Tangente neomatik 41 Update is indeed something special to behold. The neomatik date caliber is richly equipped and luxuriously decorated—for example with the embossed and gold-plated engraving on the rotor. Typically NOMOS, typically Glashütte, and something special in the world of fine watchmaking: the three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, tempered blue screws, and rhodium-plated movement surfaces with Glashütte ribbing or NOMOS perlage.
