Men’s Complication: 19Thirty Orbis Mundi

The history of BOVET 1822 is filled with travel. The brave Bovet brothers, watchmakers from Fleurier, Switzerland, first went to London, then to Guangzhou, China, then all over the world. As a result, the House of BOVET is inextricably linked to travel, and our collection is complete with several double- and triple-time and world time timepieces. This year, BOVET 1822 introduces the 19Thirty Orbis Mundi, a world timer that takes ease of use to a whole new level.

The base is the 7-day power reserve manual-winding caliber that has already made the 19Thirty famous. Adapted now to include a UTC display, the 19Thirty Orbis Mundi is a snap to set, only using the crown to both set the time and the 24 world cities.

Using an aventurine dial, reading the time in all 24 time zones is easy too, as the world cities are aligned so they can be viewed at a glance. In development for more than two years, the Orbis Mundi, Latin for “the world,” simplifies both the setting and the indications of the world timer for a new generation of watch lovers.

Exquisitely finished, the Orbis Mundi is powered by an in-house manufacture movement, and stands out for its ease of use and emblematic Fleurier case, a true symbol of two centuries of watchmaking excellence. The ergonomic 42mm polished titanium case provides optimal comfort no matter the size of the wearer's wrist, thanks to its slim profile (11.25mm).

In addition to clear and easily readable hours and minutes, this timepiece opens up the balance wheel and the seconds at 6 o'clock. On the right side of the dial is the power reserve indicator, highlighting the incredible and very useful seven days of power reserve with one single barrel. In fact, the brand has a history of impressive power reserves -- it holds the all-time record via a pocket watch produced at the dawn of the 20th century that had an amazing power reserve of 370 days.

The sapphire glass of the screw-down back lets collectors appreciate every detail of this finely finished manual-wind manufacture movement. The exhibition back is also a hallmark from the history of Maison BOVET: the BOVET brothers are famous for inventing the transparent back at the dawn of the 19th century.

The 19Thirty Orbis Mundi suits today’s global society – even if we can’t travel as freely as we could before, it’s more important than ever to know what time it is everywhere in the world.
