The art of simplicity
Inspired by past creations, but also by contemporary art and design, the épure collection is made up of 19 pieces designed with a round watch case; a great classic in watchmaking.
Let’s begin with the name épure:
The French word “épure” translates as “working drawing”, which in painting and geometry is a drawing that depicts an object in its simplest form. The épure allows designers to alter an object and create a final design using sharp, clean, refined lines… In a word, an épure is pure and precise. Today, épures are associated with design and contemporary art, which create minimalist objects and worlds where materials and colors are chosen to filter light and emphasize lines.
Boucheron’s épure collection continues this artistic quest that uses theline as an infinite source of inspiration, creativity and plays on light.
Like designers, Boucheron imagined a collection that at first appeared very simple, but that upon closer inspection proved otherwise. Beneath an apparent simplicity lies Boucheron’s highly demanding and specialized conception of art.
Épure is therefore a multifaceted collection, where the artisan’s hand has sought out the purest of lines and sculpted light, from every angle and in the finest detail.
Nothing is more difficult than creating a classic. And yet, throughout its history, the Maison Boucheron’s artisans have continued to capture the zeitgeist and create the great classics of tomorrow. The new Épure creation has been named after their artistry in using the line as a timeless, strong and modern concept.
Épure embodies refinement and grace. Its traditional round shape, with delicate curves, clean lines and finely-worked finishes, sets off the emblematic codes of the “Jeweler of Lights”: the double gadroons symbolizing eternal love and the signature Cabochon, a protective force.
More than just a timepiece, Épure is a philosophy of life and embodies Frédéric Boucheron’s vision of time. It preserves only the essential to brighten life’s most joyful hours.
The Boucheron vision of time:
I count only the joyful hours
In 1785, the watchmaker Rousseau invented a new kind of sundial that meant that clocks and watches could be set precisely at noon. Every day this sundial, which was located in the gardens of the Palais Royal, would reflect the sunlight into Frédéric Boucheron’s first boutique beneath the arcades. On its base was inscribed:
“Horas non numero nisi serenas”
“I Count Only the Joyful Hours”
Fascinated by this vision of time and life, Frédéric Boucheron adopted this motto as his own. For Boucheron, an hour was more than just a mathematical measure of time; it was part of his philosophy of life.
When you wear a Boucheron timepiece you are sure to experience wonderful moments. A gift to share with loved ones, Épure is a reminder that every moment should be lived to the fullest and that every hour is a precious gift.
These watches pass down memories of life’s most joyful moments from generation to generation.
