Zenith Captain Central Second
Power reserve: 50 h, 28800 vph
In its early days, the reputation of the Manufacture in Le Locle was notably built on the reliability of its marine chronometers, which served to calculate the position of ships at sea. It was this legendary age, imbued with the thrill of adventure and the call of the open sea, that Zenith wished to evoke in creating the Captain line first launched in 1952. The contemporary timekeepers’ versions carry strong references to the 1950s vintage models through a wealth of refined details.
The Captain Central Second is equipped with an extremely reliable Elite 670 movement: comprising 144 parts and 27 jewels, it beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). Its automatic winding mechanism operating in both directions guarantees it an over 50-hour power reserve. In terms of functions, the Captain Central Second focuses on essentials: central hour, minute and seconds hands, a date display in a window at 6 o’clock (with instant date change and fast date adjustment). This simple approach results in an ultra-thin watch with a movement measuring just 3.465 mm thick.
