Kagamimochi (鏡餅) by Parris daCosta Hayashima (PDCH)

Kagami mochi (鏡餅, "mirror rice cake") is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration. It consists of two round mochi (rice cakes), the smaller one placed on top of the larger one. The two mochi cakes symbolize the passing and coming years. Kagami mochi first appeared in the Muromachi period (14th–16th century). The name kagami ("mirror") originated from its resemblance to an old-fashioned kind of round copper mirror.

Kagamimochi is the second timepiece from Parris daCosta Hayashima (PDCH), a micro-maison from Japan. The 39mm case sits flat on the wrist, and the dial is simple and elegant. This is an everyday dress watch—the slim proportions are unobtrusive and understated (7.5mm, 6.9mm without glass). In profile, the bezel sits on top of the main case and resembles the mochi cakes that give Kagamimochi its name.

PDCH enlisted the support of specialist manufacturers to create Kagamimochi, with each collaborator carefully chosen for their proficiency in specific components:

- La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton manufactured the polished 750 4N rose gold case—the main case, including the lugs, is machined from a single piece of gold. Each case is individually numbered and hallmarked, a testament to its exclusivity and craftsmanship.

- Metelem produced the satin white dial with a lightly grained finish and voluminous wet-look printing. The sub-dial with train tracks around the inside adds a subtle depth to the otherwise simple and calm design. With only the 12, 3, and 9 numerals, along with dot markers for hours and minutes, the dial maintains a refined appearance, proudly displaying our maison name.

- Inside is a hand-finished 5401 micro-rotor movement from Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier.

- Consultant watchmakers Maclef Sarl in Les Bayards contributed their expertise to the internal, technical design and assembly, ensuring the highest standards of precision and reliability.

At Parris daCosta Hayashima, we endeavor to make fine wristwatches—and it gives us pleasure to see them being cherished and enjoyed by others.
